There
are many different aspects to serving on the Board
of Aldermen. As
an Alderman-at-Large, Marcia is elected by and represents the city
as
a whole, although
she lives in Ward 2. Each Alderman also serves on two or three Board
committees, where much of the 'nuts and bolts' work of the Board
gets done.
REGULAR
BOARD MEETINGS - The Board of Aldermen holds regularly scheduled
meetings on the first and third Monday of each month, with some variations
during the summer and to accomodate holidays.
ZONING
AND PLANNING
COMMITTEE -
Marcia is the Chairman of the Zoning and Planning Committee which
normally meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month,
and
is responsible for review of matters relating to the Inspectional
Services Department, Planning Department, Conservation Commission,
and Historic
Commission. One of the most important tasks the Committee is currently
engaged in is Zoning
Reform, a complete overhaul of the city's zoning
ordinances.
PUBLIC
SAFETY AND TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE -
Meets on the Wednesdays following the first and third Monday of each
month. The Public Safety and Transportation Committee reviews matters
relating to the Fire Department, Police Department, and Civil Defense
Department, as well as matters relating to the Traffic Engineer
and Traffic Council; taxi routes, stops and licensing; bus routes,
stops and licensing; public transportation; and utility petitions
relating to specific traffic signals.
