TAXPAYERS
TO DECIDE ON $12 MILLION OVERRIDE
Newton
voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 20th to vote on a proposed
Proposition 2 1/2 override that would raise an additional $12 million
in property taxes starting in FY 2009. The increase becomes a permanent
part of Newton's tax base going forward, and will add several hundred
dollars to the typical homeowner's tax bill.
Marcia
has been deeply involved with the Board of Aldermen's work on the
FY09 budget and the override issue. Read about her position on the
override here.
MARCIA
SERVING ON NEWTON NORTH LIASON COMMITTEE
The
Newton
North High School Liason Committee was created in April 2007
to provide a forum for neighborhood concerns and work on specific
issues related to construction of the new high school. Marcia serves
as one of the designated representatives from the Board of Aldermen.
The Newton North High School
Project is a tremendous undertaking for the City,
but affects Ward 2 in particular as the site is such a central location
and the existing building will continue to be operational while the
project is underway.
