Marcia was born and raised in
Melrose, Massachusetts, and attended Melrose public schools. She
received a B.S. in Education from Keuka College,
Keuka N.Y., with Honors and an M.Ed. from Notre Dame College in Manchester,
N.H. specializing in Language and Learning Disabilities. She was a
teacher for five years and is a former member of the American Federation
of Teachers (AFT).
A Newton
resident for 20+ years, she and her husband Howard are active members
of the Newton Democratic
City Committee and The Eliot
Church of Newton. Their children Katrina and Jeffrey attended Newton
public schools graduating from Newton North High School in 1995.
Katrina graduated from Drew University with a B.A. in Political
Science, and received her Master's degree in Public Administration
from Northeastern University in May of 2008.
She is married to Logan McCarty, who is an Assistant Dean of the
College at Harvard. Jeff graduated from Carnegie Mellon University
with a degree in Technical Theatre,
and
worked
in
design and
construction
of
theatre
sets at Show Motion in Norwalk Connecticut for several years. He now
works for Byggmeister, a unique design/build firm in Newton.
While
their children were growing up, Marcia was a Sunday School Teacher,
Church Moderator at the former
Central Congregational
Church, Soccer
Coach and Co-chair of the Day-After-Day after school program’s
parent group. Given her long-standing focus on youth and education,
Marcia continues to remain active in this area and is a member
of the Newton Childcare Commission and the Board of Directors
of the
Brigham
Community House.
In her
professional life, she has twenty years of experience in the training
and development profession
with a focus on sales
training,
organizational, management, and leadership development. She
has worked
in the high technology and banking industries. Currently she
is a Director of Human Resources for a bio-pharmaceutical
outsourcing company.
Marcia
and Howard are the proud owners of Ludwig Vaughn
Lantz, a miniature
Schnauzer who currently
runs the household.
